Exercise Classes

Add a bit of variety to your fitness routine by joining in our group exercise classes. Both fun and exhilarating, our professional instructors will help you work safely to your own personal maximum. A great way to stay motivated, make new friends and try something new! With a choice of classes available there is something to suit everyone, but if you have a suggestion for a class we are not currently running, please speak to an instructor; we are always interested in hearing what our members really want!

Aerobiking (Various Instructors)

The best fat burning class around! Sometimes called Spinning or R.P.M. this 45 minute class guarantees you will burn more fat than an hour’s workout in the gym! Working out to the beat of the music on a static bike, this class will leave you on a high and wanting more! You will not only feel great you will look great as you tone your thighs and bum to prime condition!

Step Aerobics (Instructor: Lou Morgan)

Fun, effective and will leave you feeling energised! This class is designed to improve your cardiovascular performance and posture, as well as toning the muscles of the legs, thighs and bum. The upper body conditioning element improves upper body strength and tones the muscles of the arms, shoulders, chest and ‘abs’. The workout utilises lots of power, improving muscle strength and stamina and finishes with a 5 minute relaxing stretch.

Total Ab’s (Various instructors)

Dream of a flat, toned or even rippling abdominal region? Then Total Abs is the right choice of exercise for you! This conditioning, instructor led class lets you workout comfortably in the knowledge that your health and safety is being considered. You will get all the advice and tips you need to get the most effective and efficient workout you can. Total Abs is an excellent means of exercising your stomach muscles effectively whilst improving your abdominals, back muscles and posture simultaneously.

Super Circuits

Super Circuits is a ‘station’ based exercise class, designed for those who want to challenge themselves and work at their own pace. Moving around the studio working on different pieces of equipment in turn the circuit includes exercises to improve cardio vascular endurance, free weights exercises, strength based exercises and core strength movements. This class is taught by all instructors, which means there is some varied content every week!

Body-Pod™

The Body-pod™ is a low-rise inflatable unit which has been proven to be extremely effective at improving the body’s core musculature, strength power and flexibility. Body-pod™ is taking the UK fitness industry by storm and The Portland Spa Fitness Club is among the first to introduce special classes in the Dorset area. This is the class that will help to tone your upper-back, lower back and abdominals.

Yoga (Instructor: Lea Brindle)

A great low-impact workout that relaxes the mind and body! Meaning ‘union’ on Sanskrit, Yoga aims to create balance and harmony throughout the body through improving flexibility and strength. This is achieved with a series of physical poses that ‘flow’ together to improve your stamina. The class also focuses on breathing exercises and relaxation.

Non-Members:
Aqua Aerobics and Yoga: £4.50
Total Abs and Body-Pod: £2.00
All other classes £3.00

Members:
Gym and Swim members are entitled to unlimited studio based classes excluding Yoga, where one class a month is free only.
Anytime members are entitled to four free studio based classes per month, excluding Yoga.
Concessions members are entitled to two free studio based classes per month, excluding Yoga.
Gym and Swim Concessions members are entitled to unlimited studio based classes within the hours of 9.00am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday, excluding Yoga where one class a month is free only.
