The Joint Administrators of The Portland Spa Limited have today (1 October 2009) closed the Hotel with immediate effect. For the avoidance of doubt the Hotel's leisure facilities comprising a fitness club, spa therapy suite and swimming pool remain open.

The Island and Royal Manor of Portland is about to welcome one of the finest hotels in Dorset – The Portland Spa Hotel.

The Portland Spa Hotel combines an enchanting blend of contemporary luxury, comfort, fine food and outstanding personal service and is the perfect destination for romantic breaks, stylish business events and exciting holidays – including relaxing getaways, spa pampering breaks, weddings, gala dinners, entertainment, leisure facilities, corporate events, conferences and meetings.

The Portland Spa Hotel sits majestically on the edge of the cliffs, 240 feet above sea level, affording panoramic views of the English Channel, Dorset coastline and the spectacular ‘Jurassic Coast’, designated by UNESCO as England’s first Natural World Heritage Site.

This four star hotel, built of the same Portland stone that was used to build St Pauls Cathedral in London and the United Nations building in New York, was originally a ‘top secret’ defence research establishment.
It has been lovingly restored and modernised, retaining its original art deco styling and adopting this theme throughout the £10 million conversion into a stunning hotel and world-class conference centre.

The Portland Spa Hotel boasts 78 luxury bedrooms - 43 with sea views, including 4 stunning suites. Hotel guests have access to the ‘on site*’ facilities of the luxury spa therapy suite, indoor swimming pool and fitness club, regular entertainment program, theatre, Orchid à la carte restaurant, three lounge bars, coffee shop and roof terrace.

Linked to the mainland by a road bridge from Chesil Beach, Portland - home to the 2012 Olympic sailing events - has all the advantages of being situated only 4 miles away from the popular attractions of the major UK resort of Weymouth and the beautiful rural tranquillity of Dorset, whilst possessing its own quiet charm, fascinating history, rugged beauty and stunning coastal scenery.

Portland is also a mecca for many exciting leisure and adrenalin activities, including dinghy and yacht sailing, power boating, windsurfing, leisure diving and rock climbing, to mention just a few, and is well known for it’s rugged coastal walks, bird watching, unique cultural heritage and the fantastic 18 mile long Chesil Beach.

Our online booking system will be available shortly, in the meantime please call 01305 826000 to check availability.

*Guests please note: The Portland Spa Hotel is linked to the restaurant, spa therapy suite, swimming pool and fitness club by a long corridor. It takes approx four minutes to walk from the hotel to the restaurant. The corridor is the final stage of our refurbishment project and will be undergoing a transformation soon. At present it enables guests to take a glimpse back in time and see the buildings roots, which lie with the ministry of defence. We are proud to show guests just how much we have changed the building! Guests may also be interested to know that over one hundred self contain business’ operate from the site, a few of which can be found down the connecting corridor.
